Day 15/365

In Holidays, Topics by AbbyLeave a Comment

Life has been crazy the last couple of weeks, so I haven’t had much time to reflect on my new year resolutions. It was really tough getting back into a good routine after the holidays, but really focusing on my resolutions this year seemed to help. So here’s how it’s been going:

The no snoozing rule? Terrible. I’m a snooze button addict. I just can’t quit. And did you know that if you ignore the alarm on your phone it will turn off on its own?! That happened to me this morning. I asked my husband if he heard my alarm go off. He said yes, it woke him up. So he gets up and gets himself ready and lets me continue sleeping. Seriously? Why didn’t he wake me up?! What a guy. So, obviously I need to recommit to this resolution. I will be on Amazon today searching “super loud alarm clocks that don’t turn off.”
So, my husband didn’t wake me up this morning, but he has been a huge reason I am keeping my resolution to push myself during workouts. I love working out with him. He is an ex-Marine, and he knows how to push himself physically. Here’s an example – he won’t run for a year, then he decides to go for a run, puts a distance in his head, say three miles, and he runs a solid three miles. It’s like once he puts his mind to something, he 100% commits to it. I wish I was like him in that way. As soon as an exercise becomes uncomfortable, I am ready to throw in the towel. But, I’m getting better at pushing through. And I have him to thank for that. He’s shown me that my mind will give up long before my body will. It’s pretty awesome to have a workout partner like him.
I’ve kept my promise to keep tracking my food intake through Loseit! I have been doing so well, and I am really proud of myself for this. I don’t always stay under budget, but at least I am aware of what I’m eating. My husband decided he wanted to try tracking his food also, so we signed him up with My Fitness Pal. We initially tried Loseit, but his Garmin Fenix 3 watch is not compatible with that app, but it is with My Fitness Pal, so we did that one. I’ve played around a little with it, so at this point, I can’t give any valuable feedback on it yet. He has had a few “aha” moments since he started tracking. He realized his coffee was adding over 1,000 calories a day! Yikes. Now he is drinking it black.
Finally, a quick check-in on my resolution to keep calm, especially with my daughter. I’d say I’m doing pretty awesome here too. And it’s funny, she mirrors whatever behavior I’m showing. If I start to get upset, so does she. If I stay calm, she stays calm. It’s kind of funny that way.
I’m hoping my next resolution check-in is just as good as this one. Maybe it will even be a little better with a better alarm. We’ll see!
